Trauma Therapy

Although the world is full of suffering, it is full also of the overcoming of it.
— Helen Keller

I have often likened trauma to a thief, and trauma therapy to a Robin-Hood like act of stealing back, a reclaiming of what should have never been taken.

What gets reclaimed when trauma therapy is working well?

  • sense of trust and compassion for self

  • sense of safety/safe enough-ness

  • sense of personal power and choice

  • sense of connectedness with self and world

  • sense of joy, imagination, and ease

  • sense of freedom

In my ten+ years as a trauma therapist, I have been privileged to accompany my clients as a partner and sometimes guide in these acts of reclaiming, and have had the joy of witnessing the profound healing that can arise from courageous confrontations with the truth. I have found that the approaches of EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Internal Family Systems-Informed EMDR, and mindfulness-based therapy align most with my stance as a therapy provider and have been the most effective and liberatory treatments for my clients. To learn more about these therapeutic modalities, please see the services page.

If you are located in Maryland and interested in engaging in trauma work with me, please schedule a free consultation appointment to start the process. Please note that, due to the intense nature of trauma work and the limits of my practice, I am not currently able to provide the support necessary to work with clients who are actively suicidal, struggling with life-threatening substance use disorders, or in need of eating disorder treatment.
